Oh no. You have it exactly right.

A LYS cannot hope to compete with the likes of Michael's and AC Moore on price. The only differentiator they have is to carry high quality yarn that's different from what you can get at Michael's and AC Moore.

Unless they think they have a captive (walking distance) audience. But I don't see that happening in the 'burbs of Virginia.

I wonder how they managed to get started with a business plan like that.


Nothing stranger than people! I like your description of being like a vulture circling around every now and then to see if they have died yet. Snicker.
